Photobiomodulation (PBM)

The WeberBrain® is based on the principles of transcranial low-level laser application (LLLT) and transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM).

The system uses red and infrared light delivered through the scalp. The interaction between light and biological tissue has been investigated in scientific research for many years. WeberBrain® provides a practical and comfortable approach for the application of defined light wavelengths.

Focused power for maximum efficiency

High-performance lasers operating at three different wavelengths in the red and infrared spectrum exhibit different penetration characteristics.

To ensure the light reaches the tissue with minimal obstruction, the so-called Light Fingers are positioned directly on the scalp. The laser light then passes through a lens that further focuses and directs the beam before reaching the targeted area.

Precision taken to the next level

The hexagonal arrangement of laser diodes ensures accurate calibration of the WeberBrain®. The system comprises 38 HEX modules, each housing six laser diodes, with two diodes assigned to each wavelength. This adds up to a total of 228 lasers.

FAQ

1. The WeberBrain® has lower power and fewer diodes than its predecessor (the Infrared Helmet). Does that mean it’s less effective?

At first glance, the Infrared Helmet, with its 320 LED diodes and 16W output, may seem stronger and more effective.

However, this is misleading. What really matters is not the total energy produced, but the amount that actually reaches the scalp. In this context, we consider optical output power expressed as power density per unit area (mW/cm²) as a key parameter. The WeberBrain® delivers significantly greater performance than the Infrared Helmet.

This is mainly accomplished through three key factors:

1. Efficient light transmission: The laser emission points protrude in a finger-like configuration (referred to as “Light Fingers”) and rest directly on the scalp. This design reduces the distance between light source and application area.

2. Real lasers, not LEDs: The WeberBrain® is equipped exclusively with high-performance lasers. Unlike LEDs, lasers produce a focused light beam with lower divergence. These optical properties allow for controlled light guidance and represent a fundamental difference between lasers and LED-based light sources.

3. Precision optics: Before exiting the system and reaching the scalp, the laser light is guided through a specially designed lens assembly. This system further collimates and focuses the beam, supporting controlled light guidance.

In the development of our laser helmet, particular attention was given to the selection of wavelengths. The wavelengths of 680, 808, and 1,064 nm were chosen based on published scientific research and the available body of literature in the field of light-based applications. These spectral ranges are among the most extensively investigated and are frequently referenced in scientific studies and research projects.

Each session typically lasts 20–30 minutes. For frequency, we recommend the continuous mode (0 Hz). You can choose different intensities. Especially for children, we recommend starting at a low intensity and gradually increasing over subsequent sessions.

Remember, maximum intensity or full session time isn’t always necessary. Users shall listen to their body and adjust accordingly. If you need guidance with the settings, our team is always ready to help.

Yes, the laser helmet is a wired device. With today’s technology, integrating a battery is not feasible given the high performance of the built-in laser diodes.

The helmet must not be used in cases of a diagnosed cerebral aneurysm or when a tumor is present within the application area. Caution is advised for individuals known to be sensitive to sunlight or artificial light sources. In such cases, a qualified professional assessment should be obtained prior to use. When using medications or products that may affect photosensitivity, careful monitoring of the skin during and after use is recommended. Such products may include certain medications used for colds, allergies, pain relief, or infections. When in doubt, please contact your physician.
While the WeberBrain® uses the same lasers as those employed in medical settings, it is approved as a wellness device, not a medical device. It is not intended to treat or cure diseases; its main goal is to support your well-being.

We share clear, transparent information about the technology, how it works, and the latest scientific findings, so you can decide, ideally together with your doctor or therapist, if and how the product is right for you.
With more and more people reporting headaches or sleep issues linked to so-called electromagnetic smog, we understand your concerns. We’ve given this topic a lot of careful thought. That’s why the Bluetooth interface connecting the helmet to your smartphone isn’t built into the helmet but instead sits externally in the SmartLink controller. Additionally, as part of its CE certification, the helmet underwent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, ensuring it is safe and reliable for daily use.

Yes, this is possible. 

The combined use of both systems includes both local/transcranial and systemic application approaches. As with all light-based applications, pay attention to how you feel during and after use. If you find the simultaneous use uncomfortable or experience any discomfort, you may wish to use the two devices at separate times.
